"I love this somewhat dry grass, with a higher bounce than at Wimbledon. It makes my serve more effective, and leaves me a little more time to play my shots" - Stefan Edberg about the Kooyong grasscourt, just after his second title at the Australian Open in 1987. Read the article

Federer explains why he wasn't joined by Edberg in IW

In a Tennis Channel interview by Justin Gimelstob following a third round straight-set win against Jack Sock, Roger Federer explained why he wasn't joined either by Stefan Edberg or Severin Lüthi for the first Masters 1,000 event of the season in Indian Wells.

Edberg didn't take part in the Kings of Tennis in Stockholm for the first time since the tournament was established in 2012, still he preferred not to fly to California, unlike last year, when he spent a week with the Swiss before going back to Sweden for the Champions event.

Also Lüthi needed rest after a busy schedule between the end of last year and the beginning of 2015, so Roger was left alone.

But he didn't seem to bother, as he advanced to the semifinals without dropping a single set and will be playing Milos Raonic to challenge the winner of Djokovic vs Murray in the title match. (mc)
