Immediately after the Champions Tour event in Zurich, Stefan Edberg was invited at the Ali Bey Club in Manavgat, Turkey, for a special event during the International Wilson Senior Open.

(29.03.2012) On Wednesday, the third day of the 9th International Wilson Seniors Open, the focus was on the events of the social program.
A whole series of events was offered to the tournament participants in the afternoon. The first highlights started at 04:30 p.m. on the Center Court. Special guest of the tournament Stefan Edberg first played in a Super Seniors doubles of world champions with Peter Pokorny, Peter Adrigan and Andrew Rae.
An amusing one set match with many spectacular rallies was offered to the spectators on the crowded stands of the Center Court. It became clear that the focus of this match was on the fun and not on the result.
In the second mens doubles Stefan Edberg played together with Jörgen Aberg against Manfred Hundstorfer and Ingo Herzgeroth in a show match of the younger generation. Some small show acts by Stefan Edberg and the other players made the spectators cheer. After the show matches Stefan Edberg was interviewed by former chief editor of the Tennismagazin Thomas Kosinski. Many tennis fans used the opportunity to get a personal autograph from the tennis legend afterwards.
The Swedish tennis star is in Turkey and Ali Bey Club Manavgat for the first time. He has never seen a resort like that with so many tennis courts where you can play much more than 1000 matches during a tournament week.
He especially likes the great atmosphere in the biggest tennis camp in the world and the number of dedicated tennis players and the seniors’ passion for this sport. He came here from Zurich where he reached the final of the ATP Champions Tour. Every year he gets invitations to numerous tennis events but he usually plays in only 3-4 tennis events per year.
Tennis does no longer play a major role in his life. He prefers spending his time at home with his family. Stefan Edberg was asked frequently to become captain of the Swedish Davis Cup team but he refused this offer. It would be a full time job and mean that he would have to devote himself to it and travel a lot around the world.
When the sun set the tournament participants were invited to come to the Players Night with gala dinner in the restaurant at 7:00 p.m. The whole area was festively decorated and the guests helped themselves at the rich buffet. A live music band played and the guests celebrated until late in the evening.
