In full white and tears of emotion: on April 18th at 3 o’clock pm, Stefan Edberg, aged 26, Swedish tennis star, gave his “yes” to his long-time girlfriend Annette Olsen (25) in her hometown Växjö, about 400 km south of Stockholm. Thousands of tennis fans had travelled to celebrate this day with their idol. A real dream wedding! The police had to shut off the place. In the church of the wedding, the Cathedral of Växjö, Annette wore a gorgeous snow-white wedding dress that cost 32,000 marks. The two had chosen the wedding dress together. In a festive penguin suit the silent Swede led her to the altar.
The wedding ceremony was held at the nearby Castle of Teleborg, a place where the freshly baked couple was driven in a carriage. 400 guests were waiting. After the gala dinner there was still a small celebration with the closest relatives and friends. When Stefan met Annette, she had just split with Mats Wilander. In 1986 she first appeared at a tournament with Stefan in Bastad, and the pair revealed to the public for the first time.
A year later, the top-photo model left her career to travel the world with the future champion of her heart. Her presence is a necessary emotional support for Stefan Edberg: in 1990 he is at the top of tennis world ranking for the first time. "Annette gives me a feeling of safety. This is extremely important for a sensitive person like me." They won’t go on honeymoon, because, due to the constant tennis tournaments, they are always on the road anyway.
They have been living for years in Stefan’s flat in London and his dream villa near Cannes. "We want to have children," says the young couple. "But we don't want to publicly say when! ", explains resolutely the publicity-shy tennis star.
