The draw for the 2013 Kings of Tennis by Index International was made this week, and it has pitted old rivals John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors against one another in what will be a mouth-watering resumption of one of the fiercest rivalries tennis has ever seen.
McEnroe and Connors have been drawn in Group A alongside fellow Grand Slam Champion and Former World Number One Mats Wilander in the event which takes place from March 12th to 15th. Group B will see the Swedish trio of Stefan Edberg, Magnus Larsson and Mikael Pernfors battle for a place in the Friday final.

A back injury stopped former Swedish tennis star Mats Wilander, 48, in the Stockholm Kings of Tennis earlier this year.
Now he is ready for the next edition to be played on 12-15 March. Wilander is the fourth former glory to get ready for the tournament after John McEnroe (this year's winner), Jimmy Connors and Stefan Edberg.
It's already 28 singles Grand Slam titles altogether!

A short press release on the home page of the official site informs that the Zurich Open, one of the most recent events of the ATP Champions Tour, lost its main sponsor, BNP Paribas, last August. Although organizers are said to be seeking for an economic solution, the tournament will surely not take place in 2013 (it is not even included in the ATP Champions Tour website schedule), at least not in Zurich.
Started in 2010 and held in the second part of March, the BNP Paribas Zurich Open has been one of Stefan Edberg's favourite senior circuit venues. He won the first edition, beating John McEnroe in the semifinal and Goran Ivanisevic in the final. Although he didn't take part in the event last year, due to injury, he came back in 2012, reaching the final, only losing to Carlos Moya in the Champions tie-break after suffering a left leg strain when he was about to serve for the title in the second set.

Stefan Edberg, 46, continued his unbeaten dominance in Cayman, winning the men’s singles segment for the second time in three years. The Swedish maestro won back in 2010. This time around, he would defeat South African star Wayne Ferreira 8-5. Both have a budding rivalry, throwing some playful verbal jabs at each other after their match.

Where to start from? When you have the chance to meet your childhood idol, suddenly every word becomes foreseen. So I would like to begin from the kindness of the staff at the press office of the Gerry Weber Open. It was only thanks to them that, without any media credential, I managed to access the press conference of the Champions Trophy and, believe it or not, without really knowing how, I found myself sitting in the first row, watching the winners of 70 Grand Slam tournaments combined speak, two meters away from the man I had always only watched on tv and who was the owner of my feelings back in my teenage days.
I was there, waiting to come in at a sign of the tournament communication director after all the players had ended speaking. He, indeed, introduced me to Stefan who saw me and smiled at me, when he recognized the outfit I was wearing: «Ah… and he has a nice Adidas jacket!», he said, maybe going back with his memory to 25 years ago, when he lifted his second Australian Open trophy with that on.
