"I think this has been my best week of tennis in a long time and I feel that I played the best match of my life on clay. I'm very satisfied" - Stefan Edberg on his victory in Madrid in 1993. Read the article
In January 2011 Stefan Edberg was interviewed by Svenska TF at the Kungliga Tennishallen and talked a little bit about the foundation for Swedish young tennis players he established when he retired from the tour. Here's a translation of what he said. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Translation ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ thanks Barbara Gulberg ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Fifteen years ago Stefan Edberg established a fund. He wanted to do something for Swedish tennis because he was grateful for all the help he got himself when he started as a tennis player. So this foundation is made for all the Swedish young talents who are 14, 15, 16 years old. The young players need lots of money for travelling the world, for education, for Swedish coaches both in Sweden and going abroad, and for competition all over the world. There is still 4 million kr (440 thousand euros, 578 thousand US dollars), although the fund has given lots of money for fifteen years. Now Stefan and other persons in the fund have a plan to create a "concept hall" where the young can train and play matches. The hall is going to be very ecological and made of wood, so there is lesse energy needed. The hall will also be connected with the university in Växjö. This year five young players have received scholarships. Stefan met them and played really tough matches with them, because they were really good. Stefan says the youngsters have a strong will to improve andthey have good qualities to become stars.
